We're Wereham, We're Together

Wereham Village Hall secured LEADER funding in July 2017. This project is seeing the construction of one of the UK’s first accredited Passivhaus village halls. The new hall will replace the existing village hall in Wereham, a wooden YMCA hut erected in 1918.
The Passivhaus standard is a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency, reducing a buildings ecological footprint. The construction and design are monitored independently, and compliance is awarded with a certificate upon successful completion.
The new village hall will provide a multi-use hireable space for groups and organisations to offer activities, such as youth groups, village cinema, social activities for older people, fitness classes, heritage and craft activities, community information, and meeting room facilities.
'Having been through other funding programmes, by the time we approached LEADER for funding, we already had a robust business plan and evidence of need in place. We found the LAG team easy to work with and supportive during the process, they took their time to explain terminology and offer guidance where we were unsure. The application process was made less onerous with the LAG teams support. The LEADER funding has been instrumental in the success of our project and we’re pleased to report that 3 months post launch, we’re already supporting several local businesses with our facility.' - Victoria, Wereham Village Hall
