The Local Action Groups (LAG’s) deliver this funding under the ‘LEADER’ approach, which means that LAGs enlist the energy and resources of local people and organisations in public , private and third sectors, through forming a partnership. This decentralises the decision and funding powers to the local level presenting a ‘bottom-up’ approach.

This funding is from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) delivered via Defra. In the UK this fund is managed by the Rural Payments Agency and distributed via the Rural Development Programme (RDPE) for England.

The overarching aims of the programme are to:

  • contribute towards improving the environment and the quality of life in rural areas
  • strengthen the rural economy by helping micro and small businesses to create and sustain employment within the area
  • and to improve competitiveness, particularly in the agriculture and forestry sectors

Each Local Action Group has its own specific priorities for funding.  You can access this document by clicking on the relevant Local Action Group tab at the top of the page, which will take you to their home page.  Here you can find a link to a precis of their funding priorities, a list of the wards included in the LAG area and the full Local Development Strategy, which sets out the needs for the area.

Alternatively you can click on the map, and by clicking on the area where your project sits, you will be taken through to the LAG home page.
